Chappelle est un artiste populaire de la télévision américaine, notamment avec son émission de sketches Chappelle's Show, diffusée sur Comedy Central de 2003 à 2006. Héritier d'un humour noir proche de Richard Pryor (acteur culte des Nuits de Harlem), il est connu pour son ton de scène engagé, décapant et parfois agressif.
